Here's our string shopping bag from Germany. I remember Grandma used one of these during the holidays when my brothers and I would be driven from Mangaweka to stay with her in Foxton. Grandma’s routine never changed. After her morning chores were finished she would get dressed - court shoes and pearls - and walk into town to do her daily shopping. I loved going with her and I remember the string bag she used to take from her handbag … a bag that would somehow stretch to hold all the groceries. I used to help carry it home.
